Our mother, sister, grandmother and aunt, Mildred Geneva Schoen Harcrow, died April 17, 2016.

She is predeceased by her life-long love, husband, Clyde Johnson Harcrow, Jr. and youngest daughter, Karleen.

Mom is survived by her children, Kay (Carl) Crickenberger, Karen (Tom) Laster, Karol, Clyde (Mary Beth) and Bonnie.

Also surviving her are her nine grandchildren, Chesna (Rusty) McDonnel, Lori Ann (Johnny) Liepman, Braxton Crickenberger, Mark Crickenberger, Tom Laster, Angelle (Eric) Richardson, Andrea (Jeremy) Taylor, Lauren (Jessie) Pitts and Leslie Harcrow.

Grandma Harcrow is also survived by her eleven great-grandchildren, Blake and Kayce Higgins, Sarah McDonnel, William and Anna Long, Kaleb and Rylee Crickenberger, Wyatt and Waylon Richardson and Avery and Jax Taylor. Aunt Mildred is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was born on July 1, 1930, one year into the Great Depression. Mildred was the fourth child of Otto Carl and Annie Maude Cravatt Schoen. Mildred's sister, Mary Joyce Wilks survives her. Sisters, Evalon Redden and Esther McAtee and brothers, Lester and Preston are deceased as well as half-sisters, Elmarine and Cleo and half-brothers, Garfield and Carley.

Life was never easy for Mom. She worked hard as a child picking cotton, milking cows-before and after school-caring for her younger siblings and going to school. While in the 6th grade she was once called upon to teach 1st grade for a time because of her advanced academic ability. Mom graduated from Round Rock High School at the age of 17. Mildred enjoyed the outdoors immensely, often hunting squirrels with her brothers and fishing with her dad.

Her love of fishing stayed with her throughout her life and when fishing with family and friends, she was usually the first one to catch a fish. Many hours were spent with her children and grandchildren tying on leaders and teaching them how to bait their hooks. Once shown, we were then set loose to mimic her fishing techniques. Sadly, we never quite caught on to do it exactly like she did! Mom's bestie when fishing was her sister, our Aunt Evie (Evalon). Many were the hours that they laid into 'em in Rockport or at the time, over in Port Aransas at Petrofina. Often times they caught specks and sand trout two at a time on speck rigs at night under the lights! Oh what a time.

When we were children in Austin, Mom and Aunt Evie would bring us kids down to Port Aransas and Rockport so we could go to the beach and they could fish out on the jetties. After we spent two or three days at the coast in the water and getting summer sunburns and they fishing, never did we leave the coast with such enthusiasm and they with such reluctance! We kids often spent the last day roasting in the confines of the car, delicately icing our sunburns, while Mom and Aunt Evie fished in every spot of water between Port A and Aransas Pass casting that last cast. We never thought for a moment that one day all of Aunt Evie's children and most of Mom's would eventually make their homes in Rockport, Texas.

Mother and Dad moved to Rockport in 1976 and in 1983 built and opened Harcrow's Antique Mall out on Hwy. 188, fulfilling a lifelong love of buying and selling antiques and used household goods. Mom and Dad spent six days a week building their business and on Saturday nights were regulars at Edlin's Auction House in Corpus Christi. In 1998 they sold Harcrow's so they could move to Louisiana for a time and from there to Tow, Texas. In 2000 Dad died in Llano and Mom moved back to her beloved Rockport where she spent as much time as possible fishing and buying and selling antiques. She especially loved dealing in old and antique fishing lures and pocket knives. Her final foray in selling was here in Rockport at Claudie Karol's Coastal Chic and Antiques owned by her daughter, Karol Harcrow.

We wish to thank the nurses and doctors of CRMC Hospital for the devotion and care of our Mother. She was always treated with the upmost respect and attention to her needs by nurses, Traci, Sarah and Myranda and doctors, Reddy, Surani and Ronald Bruce. Also our thanks to Harbor Hospice for their prompt response in our time of need. May God richly bless you all.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 22, 2016 from 9:00 am until 9:00 pm with the family present from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm. Mother's funeral will be held Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home in Rockport, Texas. Interment will follow at the Aransas Memorial Park Cemetery in Rockport, Texas.

In Lieu of flowers, donations in Mildred Harcrow's name should be made to the Auxiliary at CRMC Hospital, Aransas Pass, Texas.
