Ignacio left us to join them, his wife, Emma Barela and sisters, Rosie Padilla and Dolores Barela at the feet of our Heavenly Father on January 17, 2014 at the age of 75 years and 5 months.
Also in Heaven to great him are his maternal grandparents, Delfinio Trujillo and Cleofas Gurulé, paternal grandparents, Abel and Carmelita Barela, aunts and uncles, Helen and David Montoya, Louie and Emily Trujillo, Onofre Watley and Alfredo Barela, cousins, Zenon Montoya, Charlie Montoya and Gabriel Rivera.
Ignacio is survived by his dog and best friend, Charlie, dear companion, Pauline García, brothers, Daniel (Theresa) Barela, Manuel (Flora) Barela and Sammy (Melva) Barela, special cousins, Carmen and Virginia who sat with him many hours at the hospital and many other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends that will miss his laughter.
Ignacio left home at 16 and joined the United States Army serving a total of 19 years.
After the Army he made his home in Denver and began driving trucks. In 2009 he moved back home to Las Vegas, NM. Ignacio was a hard worker and would be outside working from sun up to sunset. Ignacio loved animals and even raised an orphaned goat, taking it for walks on a leash and car rides with him and Charlie.
A Rosary and Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 8:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Las Vegas, NM. Committal Services will be at 1:30 p.m. at Santa Fé National Cemetery, Santa Fé, NM with full military honors for those wishing to attend.
