Mrs. F. C. Moyer, E.K. Pioneer, Dies

Funeral services were held Monday, April 24, at 2:30 pm, from Knox Presbyterian Church for the late Mrs. Florence Constance Moyer, who passed away in St. Eugene Hospital April 20, aged 90.

Born Florence Constance Arnold in Wiltshire, Eng., on May 10, 1877, she came to Canada in 1895 to join her father, the late George Arnold, and sister Lillian.

Arriving at Fort Steele via river boat, from Jennings, Mont., in company with a Miss Bailey of England, who was engaged to take over teaching duties at the little red school house at Fort Steele, and who later became Mrs. J. Fingal Smith of Cranbrook, Miss Arnold married the late Harry Barr in 1898.

Three years later they moved to Wasa where Mr. Barr carried on blacksmithing, logging and eventually farming on a large scale.

The couple raised a family of six sons and two daughters -Fred in Cranbrook, George at Fort Steele, John at Hobson, Gordon at Golden. Clarence at Mission, Francis at Fort Assiniboine, Alta., Mrs. Myrtle Kennelly and Mrs. Victoria Jolliffe,

Mr. Barr pre-deceased her on Dec. 27, 1932. Two years later she moved to Cranbrook and established residence for almost a year, before settling at Stavely, Alta, where she married Henry Moyer.

They engaged in farming for a few years, eventually retiring, and moving to Calgary.

Following the passing of Mr. Moyer in 1946, deceased continued residence in Calgary and became a member of the Golden Age Club.

Last October she returned to Cranbrook and became resident at the Dr. Green Memorial Home, where she remained until the time of her passing.

Surviving, besides all her family, are two stepsons and one daughter and a brother, Harry Arnold, at Leslieville, Alta: 15 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. A. R. Henderson, followed by commital in Fort Steele cemetery. Pallbearers were her six grandsons: Harry Kennelly, Keith, Donald, Earl and Robert Barr, and Gerald Jolliffe.
