Benjamin Barnes, 74, died Saturday, January 18, 2014 at University Medical Center. Visitation for Mr. Barnes was held on Monday, January 20, 2014 at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday at Flora United Methodist Church at 11:00am with visitation starting at 10:00am. Burial will follow at Flora City Cemetery.

Mr. Barnes was born on March 9, 1939 in Flora, MS.
He was a member of The United Methodist Church of Flora. He enlisted in The United States Marine Corp in 1955 with training at Parris Island, SC. He served one tour in the 1958 Lebanon Crisis. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and many other sports. He worked in furniture making as a supervisor until his stroke in 1997.
Mr. Barnes was preceded in death by his father Albert B. Barnes; mother Helen Bates Barnes; brothers Albert "Buck" Barnes, Samuel Barnes, Tommy Barnes and Patrick Barnes, sisters; Emma Cason and Martha Mankoff.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Johnson Barnes; children Margaret Barnes (Sam), Albert Barnes (Morie), Thomas Barnes (Sara); sisters Mary Hicks, Merlene Bell, Joann Chemin (Joe); seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
