James Virgil Tabor, 76, of Hillsboro died Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014 at the Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Fla.

He was born Dec. 27, 1937 in Olive Hill, Ky., the son of the late Harlan and Edna Boyd Tabor.

Mr. Tabor was a retired electrician and had served as a meteorologist in the United States Air Force and was a basketball player for the Air Force, playing for three years and being team captain for two years. He traveled extensively with the Air Force team, "The Defenders," both in the U.S. and abroad. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed going to Avon Park, Fla. during the winter. He was a graduate of Mineral Springs, Ohio High School, where he participated in many sports.

He is survived by three sons, Chuck (Shirley) Tabor of Winchester, Jim (Becky) Tabor of St. George, Utah, and Tim (Cheryl) Tabor of Hillsboro; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; his companion, Joane Greene of Avon Park, Fla.; and five siblings, Richard (Nancy) Tabor of Warren, Ohio, Bonnie (Vince) Ambrose of Jacksonville, Fla., Sue (Tom) Goins of Hillsboro, Gary (Sue) Tabor of Winchester and Dolly (Darryl) Stephenson of Independence, Ky.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Pastor John Worley will officiate. The Highland County Honor Guard will present honors following the service. Burial will take place at a later date in the Sunrise Sunset Cemetery in Morehead, Ky. Friends may call on Saturday from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
