Sid served in and was retired from the United States Air Force. His active duty included service during four wars: WWII, Cold War, Korean War and Vietnam. He flew the Berlin Air Lift from the start to the finish, 186 missions, delivering essential supplies to starving and freezing Germans in Berlin. He was a Heavy Bombardment Pilot flying B-24s, B-29s, B-26s and B-52s. He retired in April 1973 as Commander of Matagorda Air Base.
Sid was an avid and skilled golfer and was very active in his community. He was a member of the Masonic Orders and Al Amin Shrine Temple for over 60 years. He was a member of the Rotary Club for 40 years (President in 1975), was a Paul Harris Fellow, and was made an honorary member of Port Lavaca Rotary Club in 2010. He was also a past President of the Chamber of Commerce.
He is survived by his wife, Linda L. Ward of Port Lavaca; daughters, Mary Elizabeth Pasqualucci of O'Fallon, IL, Kimberly Smith and husband McRee of Plano, TX; sons, Sidney Ward III and wife Donna of Oxnard, CA, Don Corrick and wife Danielle of Alpine, TX, Paul Corrick of Arlington, TX ; sister, Ada May Wayne of Navarre, FL; grandchildren, Addison and Emory Corrick , Courtney and Blake Smith, Tony and Jeffrey Pasqualucci, Erik and Ben Ward, and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Alan Ward, and his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held Monday, January 20, 2014 at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Port Lavaca with Pastor Mark Porterfield officiating and with military honors under the auspices of the Calhoun County Veterans Joint Honor Guard. Burial with full Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
