Irby was born 15 Aug 1893 in Eatonton, GA, one about nine children of Thomas B. Meriwether (1848–1927) and Sarah Bonner (1853–1914). He married Mary E. Furey on 25 Jun 1921 in Chatham, NY; they were the parents of one daughter, Elizabeth Jane. Irby served in the US Army from 15 Dec 1917 to 7 May 1920, attached to Co. B, 2nd Division ammunition train. In January 1920 he was a patient at Walter Reed Hospital. Irby was an electrical/radio engineer and worked for General Electric.

AIKEN, S.C. — Irby A. Meriwether, 85, died Wednesday at the Aiken Community Hospital.

A graveside military service will be held Monday, June 11 at the Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.

A native of Eatonton, Ga., he was the son of the late Thomas and Sara J. Bonner Meriwether.

He was a veteran of World War I and a retired radio engineer at the General Electric Co., of Syracuse, N.Y.

He leaves his wife, Mary Elizabeth Furey Meriwether of Aiken; one daughter, Mrs. Paul E. Kinsella of Aiken; one sister, Mrs. John Turner of East Point, Ga., and four grand children, David, Douglas, Steven and Barbara Hawes.
