Retired nurses aide
Julia Kendrick Griffin, 80, formerly of Lockhart, died Monday, April 7, 2003, in Ellen Sagar Nursing Home after an extended illness. Mrs. Griffin was born in Lockhart on Jan. 25, 1923, a daughter of the late Glenn and Kate Dabbs Kendrick. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lockhart and was a retired nurses aide at Wallace Thomson Hospital. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving are three sisters-in-law, Myrtle Kendrick and Jane Kendrick, both of Union, and Ann Kendrick of Chester; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Griffin was predeceased by four brothers, Ralph Kendrick, Eugene Kendrick, Charles Kendrick and Bobby Kendrick. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Lockhart conducted by the Rev. Ben Hill. Burial will be in Union Memorial Gardens.
Nephews will serve as active pallbearers. The body will remain at the funeral home where the family will receive friends tonight from 7 until 9 and will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Wednesday to await the hour of service.
The family is at the home of her sister-in-law, Myrtle Kendrick, Apt. A-2, Brittany Manor, 296 Meansville Road, Union. Memorials may be made to the Union County Cancer Services c/o Ola Jean Kelly, 117 Fant Lane, Union, S.C. 29379. The S.R. Holcombe Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
