DEEP SPRINGS, Va./MOUNT VERNON, Ky. Ivan K. Slemp, 65, passed away Tuesday (Aug 31, 2010) in Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of the area except for the last eight years. He was a member of the Deep Springs Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orie and Jamie Babb Slemp; two brothers, Don and Virgil Slemp; and one sister, Bleeka.

Ivan is survived by his son, William Paul Burchett in Afghanistan (U.S. Marines); one brother, Justin Slemp of Dryden, Va.; and two sisters, Merle Edwards of Duffield, Va., and Marcia Bartholomew of Kingsport; several nieces and nephews also survive him.

A memorial service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va. Services will be conducted by Bud Culbertson.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
