Ranie was a graduate of Concord College, class of 1952. She taught school for 32 years, 20 years at the Odd Elementary School in Raleigh County, West Virginia.

Ranie's second marriage was to Walter "Scotty" Hatcher in 1977 by Elder Dale Mills in Hinton, WVA.RANIE VELVO (WALKER) HATCHER ~ (1911~1999)

She is the daughter of the late German Christian Walker and Nyanza Nicti Ceruleon Walker.

She spent her childhood at Egeria, WV. She was a graduate of Concord College and taught school in Raleigh County for more than 31 years, including 20 years at Odd Elementary School. She was a resident of Odd for many years before moving to Beckley in 1972. She was a member of Grace Primitive Church at Cool Ridge.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, William Lacy Blankebship, on January 22. 1967; her second husband, Walter Lee 'Scottie' Hatcher, on February 22, 1985; five sisters, Dallas Texas Walker, Edith Glen Reed, Corda Camden Thompson, Topsy Dola Auer, and Inza Elter Akers; and eight brothers, Oda, Oliver, Boyd McGuffin, Karl Mason, Champ Clark, Troy Fetzer, Delpa Arlet, Verlin Henry, and Lenox Rayon Walker.

Survivors include a daughter, Irene Mills; two step-daughters, Louise McGinnis and Alice Street; a stepson, W. L. Hatcher; a brother, Cova Dile Walker; grandchildren, Mickey Lester (wife Mickey Lyn), Phil Lester (wife Dee Dee), Connie Cash (husband Bill), and Carol Stone (husband Jim); nine great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great grandchildren.

Services at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Melton Mortuary Chapel with Elder Dale Mills and Elder Keith Mills officiating. Burial in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens, Prosperity.
