The seventeenth day of ye 4th Mo in ye year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety three. I James Vestal senior of North Carolina in Surry County Yeoman being of perfect mind and memory thanks be given to the Lord, therefore calling unto mind ye mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make & ordain this my last Will and Testament & as touching such worldly estate as providence has blessed me with in this life I give devise & dispose of the same in the following manner & form

First of all my debts & funeral charges must be paid.

Item I give to my son David Vestal ye improvement he now lives on with thirty acres of land at the West end of my plantation adjoining John Thomas Longinos line by him freely to be possessed and enjoyed without any molestation.

Item I give to my son Thomas Vestal the improvement he now lives on with eighty five acres of land at ye East end of my plantation adjoining Simon Hadleys line he paying my son James Vestal ten pounds in trade in five years from this date; likewise to pay to my son William Vestal my daughter Sarah Whitehead my Daughter Elizabeth McDaniel my daughter Mary Chapman my daughter Rachel Bullock ye sum of ten shillings a peace as their full legacy paid by him.

Item I give to my son John Vestal a note of thirty-five shillings that I have against him for his full share.

Item I give to my son Jesse Vestal ye remainder part of my land where I now live containing about fifty acres with all the appurtenances thereunto belonging by him freely to be possessed & enjoyed Except ye privilege of ye house we live in & seven acres of cleared land with necessary wood & water I except & leave to my beloved wife during her widowhood & no longer likewise it is my will that my wife shall have one cow & two year old calves three sheep her horse & saddle, one chest & little box & pot & a sow & four pigs one mare colt for six years & then to give her up to my daughter Rebecca Vestal also a wheel & a reel during life also a bed & bed clothes during her widowhood then the bed & clothing to be give to my daughter Rebecca Vestal. And further it is will that my above said son Jesse Vestal shall pay to my son Isaac Vestal one horse worth twenty pounds & a good new saddle when he arrives to twenty-one years of age.

Item I give to my daughter Rebecca Vestal one feather bed & furniture a big pot with all the goods that is lodged in Elizabeth Dixons hand and two pewter dishes & a pewter bason with the aforesaid mare & bed.

And further it is my will that my son Thomas Vestal shall have the care & tuition of my daughter Rebecca Vestal till she arrives to ye age of eighteen years & of her goods.

Further it is my Will that my son Isaac Vestal be bound out to a trade.

And further it is my Will and desire that all ye residue of my goods that is not Willed away by me in this Will and one half of my crop shall be sold at public vandue to defray expenses and if then should be any over plus it is my Will my son Thomas Vestal shall have it with my saddle.

& further I leave my hachet to Ann Vestal my daughter-in-law: Likewise I constitute make & ordain my son Thomas Vestal & my trusty friend Thomas Hadley my only and sole Executors of this my last Will and Testament. I do hereby utterly disallow revoke & disanull all & every other former testaments Wills and legacies Bequests and Executors by me in any wise before this time nominated Willed and bequeathed ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my Last Will and Testament.
