World War II Veteran,

Chief Harold Lewis Catron Sr, of the Somerset Police Department was shot in the back on his front porch on Jasper Street by a drive-by shooter on April 10th, 1957. Three men in a sedan pulled up in front of his home in Somerset, Kentucky and opened fire with a shotgun, injuring Harold Catron and one of his sons, Lewis Catron, who was 11 years old at the time.

Eighty-eight pellets were lodged into Mr. Catron's body during the 1957 shooting, said Jacinta Manning, a spokeswoman for the Department of Criminal Justice in Richmond. One pellet was lodged near his heart and could not be removed. He died from complications from the shooting on September 16th, 1964 when the pellet worked loose and lodged in his heart causing a heart attack.

Harold was survived by his loving wife, Jennie Rachel Morrow Catron; two sons, Samuel Catron and Lewis Catron both of Somerset, Kentucky; and two daughters, Mellie R. Catron and Nancy Catron both of Somerset, Kentucky.

Burial was in the Somerset City Cemetery in Somerset, Kentucky.

THIS IS A TRIBUTE IN MEMORY OF HAROLD,

The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley
of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
forever.
