Records indicate that Jonas joined the Connecticut Army on 14 May 1760 towards the end of the French and Indian War. He was a member of Col. Nathan Whiting's 2nd Regiment, Capt. Ichabod Scranton's 5th Company.

Records from the Connecticut Campaign of 1760 show Jonas Powers Killed in Action on 28 September 1760. At that time the 2nd Regiment was stationed at The Fort at Number 4. This fort was the northernmost British settlement and was located along the Connecticut River in New Hampshire.

There is no record of what became of his body and no burial site has been recorded.
