Bessie was born Oct. 18, 1901 to J.T.
and Maggie (Bellows) Fitchett on a farm
near Newell. She attended country school
through the eighth grade near where she
grew op.
She and William J. Whelan were
married at Elk Point, Neb. They spent
most of their married life on a ranch near
Ewing, Neb. They retired to Chambers,
Neb., until Bill's death in 1976. At this
time Bessie moved to Newell. She was a
member of United Methodist Church.
Bessie enjoyed crossword puzzles, tatting,
crocheting, quilting, visiting with
her many relatives and her love of cooking
all things.
Preceding Bessie in death were her
parents; husband; brothers Orson, Harold,
Alanson, Floyd and Paul; sisters Carrie
and Nettie.
