Elmer Davis, 76, retired farmer of Ava and lifelong resident of Douglas County, died at 6:10 a.m. Friday, March 10, at Burge-Protestant Hospital in Springfield following a three-month illness. Mr. Davis was born February 24, 1891, in Ozark County at Noble, a son of John and Rebecca Davis. He attended the Nazarene Church for the past 16 years. He was married February 28, 1914, at Ava, to Rosa Brown who survives him.
One daughter, Mrs. Christine Irby, preceded him in death.
Survivors besides his wife, include four sons, Cecil Davis, Herman Davis and Gene Davis all of Ava, and Earnie Davis of Mtn. Grove; a daughter, Mrs. Fern Wood of Ava; three brothers, Neil Davis, Enoch Davis, and George Davis, all of Ava; a sister, Mrs. Annie, Durham of Fredonia, Kans.; 14 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 13, at the Clinkingbeard Funeral Chapel by Rev. John D. Moles. Burial was made in the Ava Cemetery by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home.
