Mary Jane Rees age 87 of Hobart passed away Saturday the 11th of January, 2014. She was a resident of Hobart for over 60 years coming from Moline Illinois. Mary Jane was co-owner and operator of Rees Funeral Homes in Hobart and Portage with her husband Jerry Rees. She was a founding member of the Hobart Industrial Economic Development Corporation (HIEDC) and HIEDC's fund raising arm. Mary Jane led fund raisers for many years raising money for the Festival Park in Hobart. She along with others initiated HIEDC's annual spaghetti dinner and duck race which supported the lakefront's development. She and her husband Jerry donated the land for Veteran's Park in Hobart. Mary Jane was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church, St Ann's Confraternity and the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.

She is survived by three children: Jennifer (Tom) Rowe, Rapids City, IL; Patty Rees (Pat Romanchek), Hobart, John Rees (Mara Hisiger) Ocean View, Hawaii, 6 grandchildren, Rebecca (Blayne) Roeder, Matthew (Jamie) Rowe, Kimberly (Dave) Iannotti and Kate Rowe, Patrick (Sarah) Romanchek and Scott (Liz) Romanchek, 8 great grandchildren and loyal companion Dodie Brunke.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her husband Jerry and son Stephen.

Visitation is Wednesday January 15 from 2 to 8 at Rees Funeral Home, Hobart Chapel, 600 West Old Ridge Road, Hobart. Funeral services are Thursday 9:30 AM at Rees Funeral Home proceeding to St. Bridget Catholic Church, 201 Center Street, Hobart for Mass of Christian burial. Reverend Dominic V. Bertino officiating.
