MRS. MARY BUTLER - Monmouth (Illinois) Review Atlas - Dec. 3, 1879

On the 12th, ult., of typhoid fever, at Great Bend, Barton county, Kansas, Mrs. Mary Butler, wife of Col. John Butler, at the house of her daughter, Mrs. Goforth, formerly Mrs. Thrailkill. She was born in Franklin county, Va., Nov. 1809. Her father removed to Gallipolis, Ohio, in 1808, at which place she was married to Mr. Butler, April 25th, 1822. In 1839 Mr. Butler moved with his family to Warren county, III, and settled in Greenbush, township, at which place they lived until August 1st, 1875, when they became residents of this place (Avon, Fulton County, Illinois). Mrs. Butler's remains arrived Tuesday and were taken immediately to Greenbush, where the funeral was attended by a large concourse of people. Rev. Mr. Seaton, of St. Augustine, was the officiating minister. Mrs. Butler lacked three days only of being 70 years old, and she had been the companion of shim who now mourns her loss, fifty three years.... She went to Kansas, in company with her husband, to see children who resided there, and was taken sick soon after leaving home. She had been a member of a Christian church some fifty years.
