Sarah Moore was born 22 Nov 1809, probably in Bulloch Co. GA, eldest child of John Moore and Elizabeth Jones who were married about 1808. About 1830 she married John Knight, born 7 Jul 1807, son of Elder William Anderson Knight and Sarah Cone. They had 7 known children: William J. born about 1831; Levi J. born about 1833; James Aaron born about 1836; Mary Ann born about 1838; Henry H. born abut 1840; Sarah Louise born about 1845; Keziah Linnie born about 1849. James Aaron married Keziah Amanda Knight, his first cousin, and Sarah Louisa married George W. Clyatt. James Aaron served in the Confederate Army. After the Civil War James Aaron and Sarah Clyatt moved with their spouses to Bradford Co. FL to homestead land. John Knight died about 1878 and Sarah Knight moved to Florida to live with her daughter Sarah Clyatt. She was buried in a small family cemetery. I have had her tombstone for almost 50 years and it is now in my back yard. I went to Bradford County to locate the cemetery and was directed to Uncle John Palmer, then 94, and his wife Aunt Bertha. They put me up for the night and the next day we set out to find the cemetery. On the way we collected Miss Alice (found her washing clothes under a corrugated tin leanto, wearing her handmade sunbonnet) and a lady who had attended the last funeral held at the Knight cemetery. "Me and Maw was setting on the porch shelling beans when the funeral passed the house. We throwed off our aprons and tuck off after it." The problem was that the road had been moved. The ladies pooled their memories; Uncle John and I searched quite a while until the farmer who was the current owner of the land appeared. He directed us to the cemetery, barely visible in an overgrown woody area. Possibly as many as a dozen graves had been there, but there was only one readable marker: the concrete tombstone of Sarah Knight. "Is 'at air one of yourn?" the farmer asked, while kicking the stone with his boot. "Yes sir, Sarah Knight was my great-grandmother." "Well, you better take her then. I'm putting corn in here next spring." The concrete marker was broken in pieces, so Uncle John and I carried the pieces back to the car. I have kept it ever since, not knowing where to place it. My husband put it back together with hydraulic cement and built a wooden base. It now stands in my back yard in Charlotte NC and I am sharing a photograph today for any other Knight descendants.
