She married Roger Ringering on 18 May 1957 at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Wood River, Illinois. They were the parents of 2 children before their marriage ended.
In addition to being a loving and devoted mother, Wanda was a very popular part of the Wood River Library for 23 years. She was known for always greeting patrons with a friendly smile and a warm hello.
Wanda shared her love of reading with countless children over the years. 12 classes at Lewis and Clark Elementary School visited the Wood River Library every week to check out books and to see one of their favorite librarians.
Wanda often sat in a rocking chair at the library and read stories to pre-schoolers. Her special talents made the stories come alive for the children. It was not uncommon for them to respond with applause or to see children gathered around her to give her a group hug.
It was a testament to the influence she had on the lives of many when her students returned years later to thank her for inspiring them to become life-long readers.
Wanda was a member of the Southwest Advocates for Youth Services. This was a group dedicated to promoting reading and library services for children.
She was an active member of St. John United Church of Christ in Wood River.
Wanda battled cancer for many years. Despite her own problems, she was know for dedicating herself to others. She was always one to offer a kind word or inspirational thought to others going through difficult times. Her cards and cheerful words meant so much to those in need.
Wanda passed away at her home at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 16 days. She was surrounded by her family.
She was survived by her mother, Ella; 1 son and daughter-in-law; 1 daughter and son-in-law; 4 grandchildren; 1 brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Marge Wooten; 1 sister, Carolyn LaTempt; and many other dear friends and family members.
She was preceded in death by her father, Jerry Wooten, in 2003 at the age of 90.
Visitation was held from 3 to 8 p.m. on 22 May 2006 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, Illinois. Funeral services were conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at St. John United Church of Christ in Wood River.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the church or to the Wood River Public Library.
Wanda's mother, Ella, lived until the age of 91 in 2009.
Wanda and her parents are all buried at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, Illinois.
