Gerald Brady Watters, 87, went to be home with the Lord on Thursday, January 9, 2014. He was born December 26, 1926 in Tyrone, Pa. to the late John and Geraldine Watters. In the 50's and 60's, Jerry was a member of the Cathedral of Tomorrow and he and his family ministered with song to many nursing homes and performed on many local radio stations. In the 70's and 80's, Jerry had a band called Country Gold that played in the Akron area. In later years, he sang gospel songs in many local churches. He proudly served with the U.S. Army and was stationed in the Philippines during World War II and was a member of American Legion, VFW and Ohio Country and Western Music Association.

Jerry is survived by four sons, Terry Watters of Cape Canaveral, Fla., Dennis (Shirlee) Watters of Tyrone, Pa., Michael (Carla) Watters of Humble, Texas and Jacob Watters of Akron; brother, Wendell Watters of Gerard, Pa.; six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins; and special friends, Mary Ann Charnes and Joann Croft. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Jerry and Joshua; and daughter, Lisa.

Friends and family may call 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014 at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, OH 44305. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. immediately following visitation at the funeral home, with Rev. Kenneth Frisbee officiating. Final resting place will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Akron.
