"Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few." (Winston Churchill, 20th Aug 1940) Hector was one of these 'Few', who participated in 'The Battle of Britain' during the Second World War.
Hector was the son of Alfred Hector Henry & Edith Ethel Barrow of Isleworth, Middlesex.
He was based at RAF Tangmere with 213 Squadron. He joined the RAFVR in April 1939 and flew in the Battle of Britain. He was reported "Missing" on the 28th November 1940 following a patrol from RAF Tangmere. It is thought his Hurricane was shot down by an ME109 and crashed into the sea. His body was washed up on the French coast near Omaha beach. He was just 21 years old.
He is commemorated on the Battle of Britain Monument in London and also the Battle of Britain Memorial at Capel-le-Ferne, Folkestone, Kent.
