SOUTH SHORE, KY - Janet S. Fugate, 82, of South Shore, KY, died Friday, January 10, 2014, at SOMC Hospice. She was born January 19, 1931, in Ashland, KY, a daughter of the late Harry Cyrus Brewer and Etta Mae Lewis Brewer. She was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Fugate in 1999.
Janet was a former employee of the S.S. Kresge Department Store in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was a longtime member of the South Shore First United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her three children, Richard (Cheryl) Fugate of South Shore, KY, Shawn (Steve) Melvin of Mayfield, KY, and Jamie (Terri) Fugate of Edgewood, KY; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a twin sister, Jane Rother of Cincinnati, OH; sister, Joy Himes of Pensacola, FL; and a brother, Robert (Ruth) Brewer of Vanceburg, KY.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Homer Curtis Brewer and Lewis Brady Brewer.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 12, 2014, at Morton Funeral Home in South Shore, with Steve Melvin and Shawn Shroll officiating. Burial will be in Siloam Cemetery in South Shore. Visitation will be Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences can be expressed at mortonfh.com.
