George Gottlieb Ronnenkamp, Sr., 94, passed away Monday, May 6, 1991 at Humana Hospital of causes incident to age.
He was born November 11, 1896 in Hibbard, Idaho, a son of George Gottlieb and Babette Christine Klingler Ronnenkamp. He married Alta May Craig, October 3, 1917 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died January 9, 1967. He later married Erma C. Boam, March 13, 1968 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died August 8, 1982. He was born and raised in Idaho and had lived in Layton since 1919. He was educated in Idaho and attended Ricks Academy. He has been a member of the Layton 1st LDS Ward. He had served two full-time LDS Missions, one to the Northern States from 1915-1917 and in Canada North-Bay from 1969 to 1970. He also served as a stake missionary, High Priest Group Leader, and as Bishop of the Layton 6th Ward. He had been an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake and Ogden LDS Temples. He was a farmer and worked for the Davis and Weber Canal. Helped in the construction of Hill Air Force Base and in the construction of Hyrum Dam. He was employed by the Layton Sugar Co. and became well known in the engineering field for his expertise in firing furnaces and producing steam for industrial use.
Survived by one son, George G., Jr. and wife, Elaine, Layton; four grandchildren; Dr. Steven F. and wife, Verus Ronnenkamp, Layton; Mrs. Richard (Diane) Cheney, Kaysville; Mrs. Cheryl R. Molis, Boise, Idaho; Mrs. Craig (Susan) Boatwright, Layton; 15 great-grandchildren; step-children, George J. Boam, Layton; Mrs. Rex (Marion) Walgren, Mrs. Fred (Norma) Baird, Bountiful; Mrs. Clain (Irene) Petersen, Laramie, Wyoming; preceded in death by three children and four sisters.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 9, 11 a.m. at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1074 No. Fairfield Rd conducted by the Layton 1st Ward. Friends may call Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. and Thursday from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the Mortuary. Interment: Kaysville City Cemetery.
