Nicholas Sawchuk, 94 years of age, passed away peacefully at Lourdes Hospital, after a short illness on January 6, 2014.

He was predeceased by his wife of 71 years, Jayne, also his parents, Tatiana and Stephen Sawchuk of Johnson City. He is survived by son Ronald (Diane) Sawchuk, Boca Raton, FL, daughters Karen (Joseph) Zvolensky, Vestal, NY, Julie (Thomas) Gomulka, Johnson City, NY, seven grandchildren, Christopher (Kimberly) Sawchuk, Tampa, FL, Terese (Louis) Rosati, Viera, FL, Meredith (James) Dodrill, Boca Raton, FL, Annette Zvolensky, Round Hill, VA, Michael (Anka) Zvolensky, Houston, TX, Matthew (Nicole) Zvolensky, Vestal, NY, Jon (Erin) Gomulka, Collegeville, PA, and eleven great grandchildren.

Nick graduated from Johnson City High School where he played varsity football. He was a policeman for Johnson City; retired from IBM (Owego) after 48 years of service. Nick was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was an avid downhill skier and a regular at Greek Peak until age 86. He enjoyed boating on Cayuga Lake with his family for many years. Nick and Jayne traveled the Eastern shore beaches, across the country and toured Europe.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 13th at 10AM at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 475 Main St, Johnson City with Rev. Christine Day officiating. A private burial will be held in Vestal Hills Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Sunday, January 12th from 4-6PM at the Barber Memorial Home, Inc., 428 Main St, Johnson City. Donations of sympathy in Nick Sawchuk's memory can be made to the Soup Kitchen at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 475 Main St, Johnson City, NY, 13790.
