John Ballenger, 68, Dies Entering Hospital

John Ballenger, 68, of north of Callao, who was struck by an automobile driven by Leland King, also of Callao, near his home last night, died as he was being taken into the Samaritan hospital for treatment a short time later. King failed to see Mr. Ballenger who was lying in the road, it was reported today. Further investigation of his death is being made.
Definite funeral arrangements have not yet been made pending the arrival of a son (sic) from Kansas, but burial will be in the St. Mary's cemetery here.
Mr. Ballenger is survived by two children, Mrs. Marie Mannemann, Marceline and Lewis Ballenger, Joliet, Ill.; four brothers, Benjamin, of the home; Lon of near Callao; Lee of Wichita, Kan., and Ernest, of Macon. One grandson also survives.

Obituary
John H. Ballenger, son of John S. Ballenger, was born near Callao, Missouri, July 25, 1876 and passed away in the Samaratin Hospital in Macon, Sept. 20, 1944, aged 68 years one month and 25 days.
Nearly all of Mr. Ballenger's life was spent on the farm in the Callao Community. He was united in matrimony with Mary S. Fessler of St. Louis in the year 1903 in St. Louis. To this union three children were born John Paul, who died in infancy, Louis Henry and Marie Frances. Mrs. Ballenger preceded him in death Aug. 14, 1939.
Mr. Ballenger was a good husband and father, a faithful worker and a worthy neighbor. He will be greatly missed by his loved ones and his many friends. He was a loyal member of the Callao Methodist Church.
He leaves to mourn his departure two children: Louis Henry Ballenger of Joliet, Ill., and Mrs. Joe Nannemann of Marceline, Mo., and one grandson, John Thomas Nannemann.
There remain also four brother: Benjamin J. Ballenger, and Alonzo E. Ballenger of Callao, Lee Ballenger of Wichita, Kan., and Ernest E. Ballenger of Macon, Mo., a sister, Mrs. Maude Grugin, departed this life July 29, 1926. Many other relatives and friends also mourn his passing.
Funeral services were conducted at the Callao Methodist Church Saturdav afternoon, Sept 23, by his pastor, the Rev. E. V. Campbell, and the body was laid to rest in the St. Mary's Cemetery of Macon under the direction of the Perry and Edwards Funeral Home in Callao.
