Knightdale, Wake County, North Carolina
Contributed by Shirley Olson, Apr, 2006, Total records = 5.
Located on Hwy #64 East (New Bern Ave.) on the south side of the road immediately after crossing the Neuse River from the west into Knightdale, this abandoned cemetery is slated to be disinterred and the remains reinterred in Oakwood Cemetery, Raleigh, NC. The small cluster of graves is located on a 20.88 acre parcel owned by Parkway Properties Group LLC, and zoned "Heavy Commercial".
There is a driveway into the property and the cemetery is immediately visible on the right. It is in very poor shape and has been partially excavated in preparation for the planned move. There are 10 graves, of which 4 headstones were partially readable.
I walked the cemetery and recorded what was readable on Apr 05, 2006. All remaining graves are unmarked. Additional info. from Paul Hartje, descendant.
