Mrs. Pearl DeWoody, 102, who spent all her life in Venango County, died at 7:05 a.m. today at Grove Manor, Grove City, where she had made her home since October 1983. Prior to that she had lived eight years with her daughter at Colonial Manor in Franklin. Born in Irwin Township June 12, 1884, she was a daughter of William B. and Isoline Gilmore Beach.
She moved to the Rouseville area and attended school there and later went to the Lyons School in Victory Township for additional studies.
She was married to Lauren A. DeWoody Nov. 25, 1903 and he died in 1959.
She was devoted to her family and always enjoyed cooking, embroidering and other fancy work, as well as many other activities related to her home and farm. Much of her life was spent on a farm in the Pearl area and she was an active member of the Hickory Grove Church of God and the Women's Christian Service Council of the church.
She is survived by a son, Paul DeWoody, and a daughter, Mrs. Ruth DeWoody, both of Franklin; six grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at the Larry E. McKinley Funeral Home, Clintonville, with Rev. Lloyd Harlan, pastor of the Congress Hill Church of God, officiating. Interment will be in Hickory Grove Cemetery.
