Eva Lucina (Cantonwine)Stewart Woodruff was the daughter of David and Eliza (Elson) Cantonwine, the granddaughter of Michael and Catherine (Myers/Myres) Cantonwine, and the great-granddaughter of Charles and Mary Magdalena (Scholl) Cantonwine.

Charles, the patriarch of the Cantonwine family, immigrated to America from Prussia in 1806, arriving in Philadelphia, Penn., aboard the ship Orlando. The ship's passenger list shows "Chr. Kuntentwine, single man." The name Kuntentwine later evolved to Cantonwine, and Charles appears to be the only surnamed Kuntentwine/Cantonwine to immigrate to America. Eight or so years after his arrival in Philadelphia, in about 1814, Charles married Mary Magdalena Scholl, daughter of Charles Jacob & Margaret (Fuhr) Scholl, in Bedford county, Pennsylvania.

On Sept. 17, 1885, Eva married George Fremont Stewart, son of John G. and Lavina Stewart. They had two children, Blanche and Cecil. George and his daughter Blanche died six years later in August 1891, a week apart. Several years later she married Clinton "Clint" Woodruff, with whom she had four children: Lural, Hurcil, Orville, and Lorene (Woodruff) Sherwood.
