Yazzie Begay was born on February 23, 1935, on the Navajo Reservation, into Tsé deeshgizhnii, and born for Kiyaa'áanii (Towering House Clan, to Cecil Benally Begay, and Susie Janet (Nez-Tsosie) Begay. He died on Monday December 16, 2014, in Flagstaff, Arizona. He In the spring of 1976 he married Betty Bitsoie in Navajo traditional way, in the Bodaway area, west of Cedar Ridge, Arizona, on the Navajo Reservation. Their marriage didn't last long. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two brothers Glenn Begay and Keith Begay; and his sister Mary Bitsoie. His interment took place on December 21, 2013 at the Begay Family Cemetery, on the Navjo Reservation.
