Fay Dellas Peterson, 90, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away January 4, 2014, at the Gables Assisted Living in Ammon. He was under the care of Encompass Home Health and Hospice.

Fay was born October 19, 1923, in Rigby, ID, to Ray Andrew Peterson and Sylvia Floss Allen Peterson. He grew up and attended schools in Rigby. He joined the U.S. Navy, and achieved the rank of Seaman First Class.

On September 30, 1943, he married Verna Hill in the Logan Utah LDS Temple. They had been married for 68 years when Verna passed away in August 2011. Fay worked as a butcher, and later owned Fred & Wayne's Tire Store. He also worked as a State Field Auditor for the State of Idaho, and owned Fay's Market in Idaho Falls.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many capacities, including Elders Quorum President, High Priest Group Leader, in three Bishoprics, in the Stake High Council and as Stake Young Mens' President, and as a home teacher. He served with Verna in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for 13 years.

He enjoyed sports, especially all BYU sports and Utah Jazz games, fishing and woodworking. His greatest joy was having his family around him.

daughter, Julie (Steven) Stanger of Idaho Falls, ID;
daughter, Sharon (Terry) Rowley of Yakima, WA;
daughter, Carol (Steve) Schuldt of Idaho Falls, ID;
daughter, Mary Lyn (Rohn) Newell of Idaho Falls, ID;
son, Clair Peterson of Nampa, ID;
daughter, Tami Peterson of Idaho Falls, ID;
brother, Wayne (Marlene) Peterson of Idaho Falls, ID.
8 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna, his parents, brothers and sister, and a daughter, Janet.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road, with Bishop Jeff Jones officiating. The family will visit with friends from 9:30 am to 10:45 am Saturday prior to services. Burial will be in the Grant-Central Cemetery.

Military Rites will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Idaho Honor Guard.
