22 August1832, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, Abraham (X) Chaney of said county, aged 72, declares he volunteered in the company of militia of Capt. John Donalson, Jr., Lt. Moses Hutchings and Ens. Joseph Williams and marched from Pittsylvania County on 9 March 1776 through Franklin County, crossed the Blue Ridge at Maggotty Gap and New River at England's Ferry and continued to the Island of Holston River and was stationed on the river in a fort. From that place Capt. Donalson with fifteen men of whom he was one, went out to search for the Cherokee Indians for about two weeks. When they returned to the fort they remained until their three months tour of duty expired. He was discharged by Capt. Donalson at that place in July 1776 about 300 miles from home.
He again volunteered in the company of militia of Capt. John Donalson, Jr., and Lt. John Guinn and marched from Pittsylvania County on 7 April 1778 and went through Franklin County to Col. Preston's in Mongomery County, remained near his house a few days and marched from there to Hatfield's Fort on Stony Creek near New River in Mongomery County and was stationed there until 12 August 1778 when he was discharged by Col. Donelson. John Farthing and John Neal were soldiers with him.
In the winter of 1781 he was drafted and marched from Pittsylvania County in a company of Capt. Clements through Halifax county into North Carolina to Hillsborough and was there sick and placed in a hospital near that place and confined there two months and fifteen days when he hired his brother Joseph Chaney to take his place. Joseph was received for him and he was discharged, still being sick.
He resided in Pittsylvania Co., Virginia when he entered service. he has lived there ever since the war ended.
22 July 1832, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia John (X) Neal declares he and Abraham Chaney marched from said county on 7 April 1778 under Capt. John Donalson to Hatfield's Fort on the waters of New River against the Cherokee Indians, Chaney served three months.
2 August 1832, Pittsylvania County, Virginia John Farthing of said county declares in 1778 he was stationed as a soldier at Hatfield's Fort on New River in Mongomery County in a Company commanded by Capt. John Donalson, Jr. and Lt. Guinn. Abraham Chaney of said county was stationed at the same place and attached to the same company and was discharged there in August 1778.
4 August 1832, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia Joshua (X) Dodson of said county declares in the Revolutionary War he was stationed at the Islands of Holston River in Virginia as a soldier in the company of Capt. John Donalson, Jr., Lt. Moses Hutchings and Ens. Joseph Williams. Abraham Chaney was stationed at the same place in the same company and served three months in 1776.
4 August 1832, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia Moses Chaney of said county declares in 1781 Abraham Chaney of said county was drafted and marched into North Carolina and was gone two or three months and returned home sick, having furnished his brother Joseph Chaney as a substitute to take his place at Hillborough, North Carolina.
20 August 1832, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia Joseph Chaney declares Abraham Chaney of said county was drafted in 1780 and marched from Pittsylvania County to Hillsborough, N.C., and was very sick at that place. He went there and took his his place as a substitute and Abraham Chaney returned home and continued sick for a long time. Joseph served twenty days of Abraham's time and was discharged.
23 April 1853, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia Nancy (X) Chaney of said county, aged 77, declares she is the widow of Abraham Chaney. She married 4 April 1811 and her husband died 25 December 1848.
23 April 1853, Pittsylvania Co., Virginia Abraham Chaney (Jr.) and Henry C. Chaney declare Abraham Chaney died at his residence in Pittsylvania County 25 December 1848.

The clerk of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia certifies the marriage license of Abraham Chaney and Nancy Donalson was issued 17 December 1810 and the marriage was solemnized by Elias Dodson in 1811.
Abraham Chaney of Pittsylvania Co., Virginia, private in the company of Capt. Donaldson in the Virginia militia for 9 months and 23 days from 1776, was placed on the Virginia pension roll at $32.55 per annum under the act of 1832. Certificate 8119 was issued 14 March 1833.
Nancy Chaney, widow of Abraham Chaney, private in Virginia, was placed on the Virginia pension roll at $32.55 per annum under the act of 1853. Certificate 3788 was issued 3 March 1854. Bounty land warrant 28653 for 160 acres was issued 2 June 1856.
