FRANK ALLEN OLD RESIDENT OF LITTLE SUAMICO IS DEAD ------ Death Comes at Age of Eighty, After Illness of Many Years

Little Suamico; – Frank Allen, one of the pioneers of Little Suamico, was called to his final rest at his home on Thursday, July 26, after an illness of several years.
Mr. Allen was born in Lehigh Valley, Scotland in 1843 coming with his parents to Goderich, Canada when a small child. (Transcriber's Note: Birthplace was actually Goderich, Canada not Scotland). There he made his home until the age of seventeen, when he went to Detroit, Michigan. After working there for a short time he made his way to the Pennsylvania coal fields, later on migrating to Indiana where, he worked on the gas pipe lines. While there he was stricken with typhoid-pneumonia, and was taken to a hospital I Detroit. After recovering from this illness he sailed for Wisconsin landing at Sturgeon Bay. He obtained work as teamster at Lamb’s Mill Bay Settlement, and was employed there until his marriage in 1866 to Anna Salentine of Luxemburg. Shortly after the young married couple came to Little Suamico and he went to work as foreman o the dock near the mouth of the Little Suamico river for the Conn Lumber Co. and Mrs. Allen took charge of the company boarding house.

While here he bought the land which comprises the old Allen homestead, moving onto it in 1870. He was actively engaged in farming when he retired, his sons taking charge.

Mrs. Allen passed away three years ago at the age of 74. Three daughters and five sons survive him, one daughter, Mrs. E. L. Bent having died fourteen years ago. The funeral was held from the home on Sunday afternoon, July 29. Reverend L. D. Hopkins officiating.
