DURHAM--Betty Althea Penny Gooch, 83, died Saturday in the Countryside Manor in Stokesdale. A native of Durham she was the daughter of the late George and Essie Keith Penny.
For more than 30 years she was an administrative assistant in the Physics Department and School of Law at Duke University. She had been active with the Durham Civitan Club for many years.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Jackie Gooch of Wilmington; her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Steve McCreedy of Greensboro; one sister, Shirley Penny of Durham and two grandchildren, Jackson Curtis and Michelle Curtis Roughton and husband, Lucien, Jr.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 31, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. in the Olive Branch Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Tim Wheeler. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive family and friend following the services in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest that donations be made to Alzheimers research.
