Eleanor O. Norton, 87, of Navarre, Florida, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2006, at Baptist Hospital in Gulf Breeze, Florida. She was born on January 12, 1918 in Savannah, Georgia to John and Neva Osborne. A 60 year resident of Savannah, she was married to William B. Futrell, Jr. until his death in 1968. She was a longtime member of St. John's Episcopal Church and retired from the Savannah Public Library in 1980. In 1980 Eleanor O. Futrell married Lt. Col. William N. Norton, retired U.S. Air Force, formally from Savannah, and then residing in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. An avid gardener, she enjoyed her beautiful garden and the mild Gulf climate. For many years she and her husband attended the Shalimar Methodist Church where Lt. Col Norton was a member. After the death of Lt. Col. Norton in 1998, Mrs. Norton moved in with her son and daughter-in-law who reside in Navarre, Florida. She is survived by her son William B. Futrell, III and his wife Linnie G. Futrell of Navarre. Six step-daughters, one step-son, and their families: Ann and Alden Peters of Mary Ester, Fl.; Angela and Matt Ankney of Crestview, Fl.; Pam and Stanley Vaughn of Navarre, Fl.; Barbara and Joel Lay of Crawfordville, Fl.; Betty Dickson of St. George, Utah,; and William and Betty Norton of Manderville, La. Mrs. Norton is survived by four grandsons, one great-grandson,nine step-granddaughters, and six step-grandsons. Family will greet friends from 4 to 6 PM on Saturday, January, 10, 2006 at the Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road, NE, Ft. Walton Beach, Florida. Graveside services and burial will be at Bonaventure Cemetery, in Savannah, Ga. on Monday, January 9, 2006 at 1 PM In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Red Cross, 3300 N.
