Rose Mary Hamilton, 97, formerly of Zanesville and Shiloh Ohio, passed away on December 29th at Chandler Arizona Regional Medical Center with family members at her side. Born May 3, 1916, she was preceded in death by her husband Robert G. Hamilton and son Robert Franklin Hamilton. She graduated from Zanesville High School in 1934 and was the oldest life-long member of St John's Lutheran Church in Zanesville.

She was married for 73 years until her husband's death in 2008. During their years together, they enjoyed a full life going to dances, boating in their restored Chris Crafts, and snowbirding in Florida. With her husband, she owned and operated Cooper's Drapery Shop located in Zanesville and, even in retirement, was passionate about making the homes of family members beautiful.

She loved to relate entertaining stories about her extensive life experiences. She was proud to have ridden in a horse and buggy, driven a car at age 12 before licenses were required, flown in biplanes before there was commercial aviation, ridden an elephant, traveled on trains, ridden on Bob's motorcycle, cruised on an ocean liner, and flown in a helicopter.

She never missed a beat and laughed easily, whether playing (and usually winning) cards games or enjoying humorous puns. She had an amazing memory for dates, birthdays, facts and for calculating numbers in her head.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed music and participated in operettas and glee clubs, sang in church choirs, and participated in skits and musical programs when wintering in Florida. She was a member of the Western Reserve Theater Organ Society and hosted many concerts at the Music Hall founded by her son (Frank) in Shiloh, Ohio

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother who felt tremendous pride in her family and served as a moral compass for their many endeavors. She was loving, sassy, fun and a bit ornery too.

She is survived by her son James R. (Marlene) Hamilton of Sunbury, Ohio and her daughter Cynthia (Don) Reighard of Sun Lakes, Arizona along with 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

Friends may visit with family members one hour prior to the 10:30 a.m. funeral service which will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ashland, Ohio on January 11, 2014. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Western Reserve Theater Organ Society. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
