DEATH OF WELL KNOWN RESIDENT LAST EVENING

Garrett C. Conklin Had Lived in Mt. Morris
for Three Quarters of a Century.

At his home on Dutch street in the Northern part of this town occurred tbe death of Garett O. Conklin last evening, following a abort illness, and in his demise the town has lost one of it's best known and most highly respected residents. Mr. Conklin was born in Cayuga oounty Sept. 2, 1830 and when a small lad removed to this locality with his parents, who were among the early settlers of the town. He had always followed the occupation of farming and having resided here continuously for the past 75 years made him one of the oldest residents of the town at the time of his death.

He had been a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church for many years and his life had been a splendid example of a true Christian. He was united in marriage to Miss Harriet Bosley on Oct. 7, 1854, who with three daughters and four sons, survive him, as follows, Mrs. Charles Whitenack of Tuscarora; Mrs. Charles Tracy, of St. Paul Minn.; Mrs. Dr. Holstein of Marseilles, Ohio, and John E., James N., Roscoe G. and Francis M. Conklin all of Tuscarora; two brothers Robert Conklin of Canandaigua and Frank Conklin of Mt. Morris and three sisters, Mrs. Warren Richmond, Mrs. Joshua Weeks and Mrs. James MoNair, all of this place.

Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from bis home, and Rev. Mr. Nichols pastor of the Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, will officiate.

CONKLIN REUNION

The 28th annual reunion of the descendants of the late James and Anna Conklin was held Labor Day at Orchard Rest near East Avon. A goodly number were in attendance to enjoy the good fellowship and games of the day.

Officers for the coming year are, President, Mrs. Herbert Conklin; 1st vice president, Elizabeth McNair; 2d vice president, Roscoe Conklin; secretary, Carl Conklin; treasurer, Warren Maxson.

Births reported for the past year were, A daughter to Mr. and Mrs. James Morris, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Newton Conklin, a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. La Verne Arne. Two marriages, Doris Shaddock and William Schreck, Rolston Shaddock and Sophia Vogt. Two deaths; James McNair and Frank Ousterhout. both of Mt. Morris.

It was decided to change the time or meeting next year to the second Sunday in August at Orchard Rest.

Death Claims John E. Conklin

John E. Conklin, life long resident of Mt. Morris, died Wednesday, Oct. 31, 1945, at his home, Dutch Street Road.

He received his early education in the town of Mt. Morris and had always been engaged in farming. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church at Tuscarora, and active in community events.

Besides his wife he leaves a son, Lt. Bruce Conklin, U.S. Army, stationed at Fresno, Calif., two brothers, Roscoe G. Conklin and Marion Conklin, both of Mt. Morris, three sisters, Mrs. John D. Holstom of Massillon, Ohio, Mrs. Anna Tracey of Mt. Morris and Mrs. Charles Whitenack of Nunda, one grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Sunday with Rev. L. P. VanSlyke officiating and burial was made in the Mt. Morris cemetery.

Mrs. L. Whitenack Claimed by Death

Mrs. Lizzie Whitenack, 87, died at her home on the Scipio Road Thursday, Aug. 1, 1946.

The funeral was held at the home Sunday afternoon. Rev. A. E. Francis officiating. Burial was made in Oakwood cemetery.

Surviving Mrs. Whitenack are one daughter, Mrs. Clyde Hulbert of Dansville, one son, Jay Whitenack, two sisters, Mrs. Anna Tracy of Mt. Morris and Mrs. J. G. Holston of Massillon, Ohio, two brothers, Marion and Roscoe Conklin of Mt. Morris, also two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p. m. tomorrow at the Whitenack residence, with the Rev. George C. Conrad of Leicester, officiating, and at 2 p. m. Tuesday at St. Timothy Episcopal Church in Massillon, Ohio.

She is survived by a brother, Marion Conklin of Mt. Morris; three nieces and four nephews.

Friends may call at the Whitenak residence.
