Simeon was born in Victoria in 1859, the youngest child of John Tod and Sophia. John Tod was 65 years old when Sym was Born. He went to visit a friend's ranch in Los Angeles, California in 1884, after which he decided to stay in the city. He died in a California hospital on April 20, 1885, approximately 26 years old. He left no will and had an estate of close to $3,500. Telegraphs were sent to his next of kin, sister Mary Bowker, asking what she wanted done with his remains and asking for payment to the undertaker
