Robert G. Hanson was born October 25, 1918, to Gerhard and Sunniva Borge Hanson in Troy Township near Eagle Grove in the home where he and his wife, Ruth, still lived at the time of his death. He attended a Troy Township rural school followed by graduation from Eagle Grove High School in 1936. After attending Iowa State University in Ames, he returned home to help farm the family farm. In 1942, he was united in marriage to Ruth Brisbin at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove by Reverend T. J. Severtson. He served as Deacon, Trustee and on several committees in the church. He was a past 4-H Leader, served as the Performing Supervisor of the Wright County A. S. C. and the County Committee for a number of years. After his father's death in 1963, he continued his father's insurance business until 1981 after which their son, Bill, continued the insurance business. For several years, he served on the board of the Farmer's Mutual Insurance Company of Webster County. After retiring in 1981 due to poor health, they continued to live on the Hanson Century Farm.

Robert G. Hanson died Monday, March 24, 1997, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, at the age of 78.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth, Eagle Grove; three sons, John Hanson and wife, Bonnie, Greenwood, Indiana, Bill Hanson and wife, Linda, Fort Dodge, and Ron Hanson and his wife, Sally, Carmel, Ind.; one daughter, Mary Christianson and husband, Jim, Spirit Lake; 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandsons; two sisters, Aagot Theilig, Fort Dodge; Helen Hanson, Laguna Hills, Calif.; and one brother, Kermit Hanson, Seattle, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 27, 1997, at 1:30 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, with Reverend Franz Schemmel officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.

Willim Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
