On Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock after year after year of a difficult and challenging life Mrs. Elise Schwarz born a Behrens, the mother of the venerable merchant Chas. Schwarz, died being 60 years, 7 months and 26 days old. The deceased was born on July 4, 1841 in Fellerdillern in lovely Nassau. In 1846 with the first colonists to arrive at Fredericksburg by wagon train. She was already half orphaned and soon after arrival lost her father and found with Mr. Christian Althaus and his wife true foster parents. In the year 1859 she married Mr. Karl Schwarz by whom she had 9 children. Six of whom preceded the mother in eternity. In her old age her son Karl (Charles) was a protector so that her many bodily needs, the least of which was concern of her daily bread was spared her. Besides him live on her son Franz who hurried here from Laredo to have his mother the last escort, and a daughter Franziska, Mrs. W. Graf, her 16 grandchildren, 2 brothers, and the very old foster parents.
