She is preceded in death by her husband of forty-four years, William T. Smith; parents, Charlie and Mary Bass; and eight siblings: Hattie Blackwell, Sarah Bass, Fannie Bass, Mollie Long, Esther Daye, William T. Bass, James T. Bass and James Edward Bass.
She is survived by a nephew raised as her son, Lawrence A. Bass (Trecia) of Greensboro, NC; nieces and nephews: Mary D. Nelson of Durham, NC, Annie Jones (Coy) of Rougemont, NC, Phyllis Lyons (Michael) of Roxboro, NC, Baxter Bass (Fannie) of Oxford, NC, Alphonso Bass of Raleigh, NC, Flora Bass, also of Durham, Magdalene Downey (Purvis), also of Rougemont, Reginald Bass (Vicki) of Atlanta, GA, Brenda Bass and Amelia Owens (Rodney), both of Durham, Ophelia Bell (Kenny), Novella Harris, and Irene Jones, all of Rougemont; adopted niece, Pauline Hamlett of Roxboro; and a host of additional relatives and friends.
The funeral service will be held Sunday, February 28, 2021 at 1:00pm at Siloam Missionary Baptist Church, 4688 Mt. Harmony Church Road, Rougemont, NC 27572 with the Rev. Willie Wayne Johnson, Pastor, officiating and providing the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Lawson Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, 200 Lawson Chapel Church Road, Roxboro, NC 27574. Visitation will also be Sunday at the church from 12:00pm to 1:00pm when her body will lie in state for one hour prior to the service.
At other times, the family will receive friends at the home of her niece, 626 Saddle Ridge Ave, Durham, NC 27704.
