Johannes R. Halverson was born to the parents, Halvor and Bertha Halverson, June 9, 1890 at Rydlandsness, in Seim, Norway and passed away from this life at Oakdale, Iowa, April 8, 1941 at the age of 50 years, 9 months, and 31 days. He was baptized unto Christ, received instruction, and confessed his Christian faith in his youth.

In 1910 he came to America, to Rochelle, Ill., but soon after that he came to Iowa. On the 27th of February 1915 he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Nesheim at Sioux City. Mr. and Mrs. Halverson have lived in Eagle Grove since 1916, where he was employed by the Chicago and North Western Railroad, until he was compelled to retire because of failing health. In September 1937 he registered at the Sunny Crest Sanitarium at Dubuque for treatment and remained there until in the summer of 1940, when he was removed to Oakdale, where he now passed away.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bertha Halverson, and by three sons, Harold, Selmer, and Clarence, and by two daughters, Jean and Ardith. Also, by his aged mother, one brother, Einar and three sisters, Anna, Solvei, and Marget, all still in Norway. He is also survived by four brothers living in America, John M. Halverson, Eagle Grove; and Harold, Magnus, and Ingvald, living at Kansas City, Mo.

Mr. Halverson was a quiet personality, faithful to the utmost in his work and all his duties. He was a kind neighbor, and a sympathetic husband, and father. Because of his faithfulness and his devotion to his family, he continued at his work until he was compelled to retire and seek medical help. It surely was a trial for both him and his family that he must spend the last three- and one-half years away from his loved ones. But he loved his Savior, Jesus Christ, dearly and found strength in his fellowship to bear the trial. When he was lonely, the companionship of the Savior gave him comfort. It was our privilege to visit him several times at the Sanitarium and he confessed freely his love for Jesus and his faith in the promises of Jesus. In this faith he slept away and in this faith he will await the resurrection to glory.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 10 from the home and from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church. Burial was made in the family lot at the Rose Hill cemetery.
