Beautiful, vibrant, and deeply loved by family and friends, Marcella "Marty" Smith lived 82 full and happy years before passing away on August 6, 2011.
She will be missed by her loving husband of 49 years, Hubert ("Smitty"), as well as her daughters Jacqueline and Laura, her grandchildren Jon, Diana, and Noah, her brother Don, and a host of friends and extended family.
She wanted to be known as a good wife, mother, and homemaker - and, as with everything she did, she excelled at these things and more. She was a delightful, loving and vivacious woman, famous in the family for amazing cooking, gardening, photography, and having an excellent wit. She was our family's spark and center. We loved her and will miss her more than words can express.
Her history began in Olympia, Washington, where she was born in 1929. She had very happy memories of her childhood in South Bay, where she made several lifelong friends and was the pitcher for the girls' baseball team. In high school she enjoyed drama and speech, graduating from Olympia High School in 1947.
After high school she worked for the state of Washington for 26 years, and balanced work with being a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. She raised her 2 daughters, tended a large garden of over 50 roses, spearheaded countless social outings, and hosted most of the family's holiday gatherings - always in grand style, keeping everyone laughing, happy, and well-fed. After retirement, Marty and Smitty traveled the globe together, taking several trips or cruises a year.
Most important of all, she brought joy to everyone around her every day.
