Hon. Thomas Porter came to Tinmouth in 1779 from Cornwall, CT. He served in Vermont as a Judge of Rutland County, Speaker of the House/General Assembly (1780-82), Member of the Executive Council (1783-95), Justice of the State Supreme Court (1783-86) and delegate/signer of Vermont's ratification of the U.S. Constitution (1791). Prior to 1779, he had served in the CT General Assembly (1768-76) and as a Captain in the 14th Connecticut during the Revolution.
