She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Archie Clements, and her daughter, Aleene Clements Taunton. She is survived by her son, five grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren, three nieces, a nephew, extended family and many friends.
She was born in Lineville, AL on February 5, 1916 to M.H. Smith and Pearl Gibson Smith and was the last surviving child of three siblings (one sister and one brother). The family moved to the western section of the Birmingham area when she was 12 years old and she graduated from Phillips High School. She was a longtime member of Beverly Methodist church where she taught an adult Sunday school class for many years. Upon her move to the eastern area of the city, she became a member of St. John's Methodist Church, then Gardendale Mt. Vernon Methodist Church.
She was a consummate business and professional woman whose productive work spanned six decades with varied businesses and positions of responsibility with the companies involved.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the Family Comfort Hospice for their loving care and services over an extended period of time as her health deteriorated. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Ridout's Elmwood Chapel with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
