Clair Rollings, 83, of Minneapolis, who formerly farmed in the Watson area, died October 13, 1992 at Bryn Muhr Nursing Home in Minneapolis.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Friday, October 16 at Watson Lutheran Church in Watson. Visitation will be held for one hour before services at the church. Rev. Robert Rendahl will officiate and interment will be at the church cemetery.

Clair Thomas Rollings was born March 9, 1909 at Marshalltown, IA the son of the late Henry and Mary Grace (Chance) Rollings. Clair attended school and grew to adulthood at Lake Crystal, MN. He later attended the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1933. He was united in marriage with Alma (Dolly) Corneliusen on December 26, 1933 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Montevideo.

Clair was an educational advisor at a CCC Camp near Blackduck for five years before returning to the U of M to complete a master's degree in biology in 1942. Clair entered the Army on September 26, 1944 and served as a flight instrument instructor in the Alaskan wing of the Army Air Force until he was discharged November 8, 1945. He joined the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in 1948. Clair was a manager of the National Wildlife refuge in Savanna, IL, Clinton, IA, and Columbia, SD. In 1951 he was transferred to Minneapolis as a regional biologist, traveling through 12 upper midwest states to look after biological food, water, and cover.

After his retirement in 1972, Clair and his wife Dolly spent much of their time traveling and making the family homestead in Big Bend Township, Chippewa County, MN a place where they could relax and enjoy nature. He installed seven shallow wildlife ponds and planted six acres of trees. For his work on the farm he was honored as the Farmer-Sportsman of the Year for Chippewa County in 1985. Clair and his wife donated their farms to the Department of Natural Resources for wildlife management. Dolly died November 21, 1984.

He is survived by one daughter-in-law Ala and her husband Ken Parsons of Maple Grove, MN; one granddaughter Anna and great-grandson Justin; three sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Rollings of Lake Crystal, MN, RuBelle Stranjord of Belview, MN and Dagne Shutter of Fargo, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Alma (Dolly); two sons: Clair, Jr. who died in 1948 and Tom who died in 1985; three brothers; and one sister.
