Alfred Mays, 83, of Springdale, died March 27 in Springdale Memorial Hospital. Born September 24, 1896, at Huntsville, he was the son of William and Mary Laningham Mays and was a member of the Methodist Church. He was a retired first sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps, served in World War I, World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart medal June 6, 1918. He was a member of the American Legion Post 139, Springdale, Naval Lodge N. 24 in Warrington, Florida and the A and A Scottish Rites, Valley of Pensacola, Florida.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. June Saunders Mays of the home to whom he was married June 24, 1935, at Bentonville; a sister, Mrs. John (Ora) Barron of Springdale; and several nieces and nephews.

Masonic rite services were at 3 P.M. Saturday, March 29 in Sisco Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Arlington National Cemetery, near Washington, D.C, at 11:30 A.M. Tuesday, April 1.
