Mass of Christian Burial for Herbert Joseph (Herbie) Yosten, age 85 of Muenster, was set for 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 31, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster. A Rosary/Vigil was held at the funeral home at 6:00 PM Monday, December 30, 2013. Services were officiated by Rev. Ken Robinson and directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Muenster. Herbie died in Denton, Texas on Saturday, December 28, 2013.

Born June 29, 1928 in Muenster, Herbie was a son of Nick and Rosa Yosten. He was a lifelong resident of Muenster and a graduate of Sacred Heart School.

Herbie was one of seven children. He, as a young man, helped his parents in the Sand and Gravel business. He had also worked at the old FMA store on Main Street for four years.

Herbie was drafted into the US Army in 1951 where he served for two years. Upon his return to Muenster, he joined his father and brother in the Yosten Sand and Gravel business. He and his brother built a new home on the corner of Pine and Cross Street. He married Magdalen Noggler Lewis in Sacred Heart Catholic Church on April 21, 1983. They made their home then on Cross Street. He and Magdalen continued the Sand and Gravel business for several years.

There wasn't much that didn't make Herbie happy. He loved nature and being outdoors. As a younger man, going fishing once in a while was a big thrill. Talking with old friends about old times was a favorite. Herbie loved cruising around town and he sure loved playing with the grand kids. Any day there was Mass on Channel 2, he was watching it as well as 2:30 PM Rosary on Channel 61. Channel 12's news anchor, Rita Kotey, was his favorite because he could understand her so well. If you ever needed to find Herbie, he would be in the house by the dining room table in his all-time favorite chair he referred to as his "swivel" chair, watching the birds and squirrels. He was the most easy going, gentle, and loving man anyone could ask for. He was a loving husband and step-father and a friend to many. He will be greatly missed.

Herbie is survived by: his wife, Magdalen Yosten of Muenster; stepchildren; Thelma Baxter of Brekenridge, TX, Terry Lewis of Lewisville, Michael Lewis of Muenster, Wylie Lewis, Jr. of Callisburg, and Doyle Lewis of Florida; his sisters: Armella Cler of Muenster and Polly Spires of Gainesville; his brothers: Nick Yosten of Hereford, TX, Meinard Yosten of Muenster; four step grandchildren and one step great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by: his parents: Nick and Rosa Yosten; brothers: Werner and Tony Yosten; and his sister, Agnes Yosten.

Pallbearers were: Glenn Cler, Tim Cler, Kevin Cler, James Yosten, Chris Yosten, and Greg Yosten.

The family requests memorials be made to: Blessed John Paul II, University Parish (1303 Eagle Dr., Denton, TX 76201), or a charity of your choice.
