Alta Smith Anthony age 85, widow of Harrie E. Anthony, formerly of 318 Poplar St., Towanda, Pa. died Monday evening, March 27, 2000 at Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Born July 29, 1914 in East Smithfield, Pa. she was a daughter of the late Winfield and Anna Keeler Smith. During the 1960s, Mrs. Anthony was employed by the former W.T. Grant Co. on Main Street in Towanda. She later was employed as a receptionist for the late Dr. Willis Redding in Towanda for several years. Mrs. Anthony was a member of the Towanda First Presbyterian Church and the Towanda Area Senior Citizens. Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, James R. and Susan L. Anthony of Dillon, Colo. and Dale E. and Hazel C. Anthony of Waverly, N.Y.; a daughter, Kay L. Dishinger of Wilkes-Barre, Pa.; a daughter-in-law, Sarah "Sally" Anthony of Broadheadsville, Pa.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harrie E. Anthony in July 1971, and by a son, Robert H. Anthony in November 1985. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 1, 2000 at 1 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, Pa. with the Rev. Harry L. Ferguson officiating. Interment will be in the Ulster Cemetery, Ulster, Pa. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to the Towanda Public Library, 104 Main St., Towanda, Pa. in Mrs. Anthony's memory.
