CORINNE—On December 26, 2013, heaven gained another cowboy. Dawn Mathias Reeder passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born at dawn on December 31, 1928 to Adolph Madsen and Ada Vivian Reeder. He married his eternal sweetheart, Lozon Jensen on June 28, 1957 in the Logan LDS Temple.
Dawn was a lifelong resident of Corinne. He attended Box Elder High School where he was a State Champion Wrestler. At age 19, he served a two year LDS Mission in the Hawaiian Islands. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He faithfully served throughout his life in various callings including: Young Men's President, High Priest Group Presidency and Financial Clerk.
He was drafted into the army in 1951. He served at Fort Meade Maryland, Camp Picket Virginia and Korea. While in Korea, he drove the jeep for the division surgeon and the LDS Chaplain. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action. Dawn distinguished himself in combat as he volunteered to help evacuate wounded from in front of the front lines.
Dawn was a cowboy at heart, and he loved all of his animals, especially his horses. He always treated animals with kindness and respect. He loved his farming occupation and the country way of life. He had many talents and was known for his braided bullwhips. Family was everything to Dawn. He was so proud of his children and grandchildren and their many accomplishments. He loved watching and supporting them in their various activities. Education and knowledge were very important to him. He loved reading and was self-taught. He could answer questions on any subject with details and facts that he had read years ago.
Dawn loved family history, especially our Pioneer heritage. He knew our ancestors by name and their individual stories and sacrifices. He would retell their stories with great reverence and humility.
He was friendly and kind to everyone, and had a special compassion for those in need. People who knew him loved and respected him. Dawn was a gentle giant of a man. He spoke with not many words, but by his example of goodness. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
Dawn is survived by his wife, Lozon Jensen; children: Dawn Bret (Jeri) Reeder, Corinne; Lisa Ann (Clark) Jarrett, Hyde Park; Marcie Kim (Rod) Andrew, Spanish Fork; James Darrin Reeder, Washington City; 19 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and three brothers.
Funeral Services will be held in the Corinne 1st Ward Chapel, 2325 N. 4000 W., Corinne, UT at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, December 31, 2013 preceded by a viewing from 10:00 to 10:40 A.M. Viewing for family and friends Monday, December 30 from 6 to 8:00 p.m. at Myers Mortuary, 205 S. 100 E., Brigham City.
Interment in Brigham City Cemetery.
