Walter S. Holderbaum, 86, formerly of 52573 Jackie Lane, died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday in the Americana Nursing Home in Elkhart after a six-week illness. He retired from the Northern Indiana Transit Co in 1951. He was born Nov. 20, 1886, in Elkhart County and lived most of his life in the South Bend community. On Dec. 25, 1906, in South Bend, he married Lena Higbee, who died in 1968. Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Gerald Stinbarger, pastor of the Church of Jesus Christ of Niles officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. He was a member of the St. Joseph Lodge 45 F. & A.M. and the Scottish Rite bodies of St. Joseph County. Lodge 45 will have a memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.
